About

JUNK takes you on a journey back to a time when the neighbourhood street was a playground full of adventure and make-believe. An ordinary boy, dressed head-to-toe in contemporary safety gear, discovers an abandoned junkyard inhabited by a gang of wild-at-heart kids. With boundless enthusiasm the group urge him to play as children once did: without inhibition and free from adult supervision.

Propelled by a cast of talented young performers, this vibrant take on childhood tumbles headfirst into a world of play and imagination through circus skills, acrobatics and beautiful shadow puppetry creating a sense of nostalgia for a time when young people were encouraged to take risks and weren’t wrapped in cotton wool.

Inspired by childhood stories told to them by elderly residents of regional Australia, the young artists of JUNK will move and inspire you with their breath-taking artistry.

JUNK premiered at The Cube Wodonga in 2016 and enjoyed sell-out seasons at Sydney Opera House and Arts Centre Melbourne in 2017, an incredible season at Auckland Arts Festival in 2018, followed by 2 regional tours across NSW, Victoria, Queensland and the NT.
