About

Borderville Circus Festival, Albury-Wodonga’s summer celebration of circus for families is back in 2019, with a special anniversary program celebrating 40 years of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus.

In partnership with Albury City, the 2019 Borderville Circus Festival program will have at its heart a Circus Big Top, to be sited in Hovell Tree Park, the same location as the original tent way back in 1979.

In 2019, the festival’s main event will be a new work created by renowned circus director, and Artistic Director of Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Anni Davey, which will feature every one of the 81 students of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus. This is the first time the entire circus school has performed a major work together, and the first time in 15 years that the Fruities have performed in a big top. Back in the Big Top will have six performances across 4 – 7 December.

Other festival events will include open workshops for children new to circus, performances by alumni of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus in Fruities at 40, and Now and Then, a circus film double bill showing in collaboration with festival partner Regent Cinema.

Borderville Circus Festival immerses families in the magic of circus, so dip your toe in and experience the extraordinary!

NOW & THEN

Saturday 7 December

Reflect on what’s changed and what’s stayed the same. Two local film makers have tackled the history of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus in two documentaries. The first, shot in 1988 by Rob Scott, reflects on a little youth circus that could – following the creation of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus and how it became The Greatest Little Show on Earth. 30 years later, local filmmaker Helen Newman catches up with alumni and current students of the company to see how far we’ve come, and what makes the Fruities so extraordinary.
