One of Australia’s most celebrated contemporary circus company joins forces with Australia’s national youth circus
Flying Fruit Fly Circus is thrilled to announce that Gravity and Other Myths (GOM) will be in residence in Albury-Wodonga from July to September 2026 – an extraordinary coming-together of two of Australia’s most distinctive circus companies.
GOM artists will join the Flying Fruit Fly Circus training team this winter, sharing their creative practice with the Fruit Fly ensemble. GOM founding member and creative director Lachlan Binns will direct the entire ensemble in a brand-new work, Vanishing Point, performed at the Borderville Theatre in September.
Gravity and Other Myths are among the most celebrated performing arts companies Australia has produced. Having toured to more than 40 countries and won major international awards, they have redefined what contemporary circus can be. In perfect timing, directly before coming to Albury, GOM will perform the Australian premiere of their new show LOUDER at Sydney Opera House from 25 – 28 June, the week before the Flying Fruit Fly Circus performs Pay No Attention at Sydney Opera House, 1 – 11 July.
The connection between the two companies runs deep. GOM is now led by Darcy Grant, himself a Flying Fruit Fly Circus alumnus, and the company’s ensemble has featured a remarkable roll call of Fruit Fly graduates, including Simon McClure, Jack Manson and Shani Stephens. Lachlan Binns’ own story echoes this: he began circus as a child at Adelaide’s Cirkidz, the same youth circus pathway that has shaped so many of GOM’s artists. This residency feels less like a new partnership and more like a homecoming.
“Gravity and Other Myths are one of Australia’s most celebrated contemporary circus companies,” says Anni Davey, Artistic Director of Flying Fruit Fly Circus. “We are so proud that the company is led by Fruit Fly alumnus Darcy Grant, and their ensemble has featured some of our incredible graduates over the last decade. As soon as we were aware that GOM had a break in their busy tour schedule, we pounced – to see if we could bring their artists to Albury to work with our young people, the next generation of contemporary circus artists.”
Flying Fruit Fly Circus is Australia’s national youth circus and the country’s only full-time circus school, with a training team widely regarded to be one of the nation’s best. For emerging circus artists, being shaped by many different voices, styles and creative approaches is invaluable, and having GOM’s artists join with the Fruit Fly trainers to work directly with the ensemble will bring a new creative perspective into the room, one that will leave its mark on every young artist in the building.
