Donate to the Flying Fruit Fly Circus Scholarship Fund

Ordinary Kids Doing Extraordinary Things

Each year, talented young performers from across Australia audition for a place at the Flying Fruit Fly Circus School. For some, financial hardship can stand in the way of an extraordinary opportunity.

Scholarships can help cover tuition, travel, training, and the costs of daily life – allowing students to focus on their craft, their community, and their future.

Your gift provides more than just funding – it opens the door to confidence, creativity, and a life-changing education.

If you would like to discuss setting up a new scholarship, please contact us on (02) 6043 0777 to discuss.

Noel Tovey Scholarship Fund

The Noel Tovey Scholarship Fund helps to ensure there is no financial barrier to enrolment at the Flying Fruit Fly Circus.

Being a young artist at the Flying Fruit Fly Circus is a full-time job. Our students attend school for 30 hours a week and train between 9 and 20 hours per week, rehearsing and performing shows on top of this.

It takes the commitment of a whole family to see a student through each year at the Fruities, and we know that the reality of attending is harder for some. That’s why since 2004 we have partnered with Uncle Noel Tovey AM to grow a scholarship fund to support our students.

Uncle Noel played the lead in our 25th anniversary production Skipping on Stars, based on the life of First Nations tightwire walker Con Colleano. He was so moved by the experience that he was driven to set up a scholarship fund in his name to help reduce the financial barrier families face in sending their child to the Flying Fruit Fly Circus.

A gift to the Noel Tovey Scholarship Fund supports students to attend a unique creative learning environment. It removes the financial barrier so that children of all backgrounds can join the circus and aspire to bright, creative futures.

Thanks to many generous donors, over 30 students have so far received a Noel Tovey Scholarship, allowing them to learn and flourish with one of the world’s leading youth arts companies.

Any donation of $2 or more is tax deductible.

Neil McDermott Scholarship

The Neil McDermott Scholarship Fund provides a 50% contribution towards the fees of a deserving student who may otherwise struggle to attend the Flying Fruit Fly Circus. The Scholarship Fund has been created with permission of Neil McDermott’s family to honour his memory and his legacy as a valued teacher, passionate supporter and wonderful friend of the Circus.

As a teacher at our school Neil nurtured and mentored multiple generations of Fruities. As a constant and passionate supporter of our circus, he contributed to so many aspects of our work from tours to unofficial resident photographer. Few will have had such a lasting impact on the lives of so many of our students and his generosity of spirit and good humour is greatly missed.

Neil had a long standing love for our circus and the arts in general, and a passion for helping others less fortunate. Please contribute to the Neil McDermott Scholarship Fund to honour his memory and to support this annual scholarship.
