Under Construction Creative Residencies
Under Construction supports emerging and established artists in Australia to develop and perform original circus and physical theatre works. It provides structure for creative development, concluding with a work-in-progress showing or performance at the Flying Fruit Fly Circus. In 2026 we are delighted to offer residencies for Victorian artists at the new Circus Centre Melbourne.
This is the first round for 2026 residencies in the first half of the year. Please ensure your application is received by 5pm Wednesday 6 August.
Each Under Construction residency receives:
- Two weeks access to agreed space and equipment at Flying Fruit Fly Circus or Circus Centre Melbourne
- Advice, feedback and mentorship from the FFFC or CCM team
Residencies in Albury also receive:
- $5,000 cash seed funding for the project
- Free accommodation in our Circus House (4 bedrooms), a five minute walk away, subject to negotiation of dates
- Basic technical support for a work-in-progress showing in the Borderville Theatre.
Eligibility
Albury: Under Construction is open to individuals or groups living in Australia with an independent arts practice in circus or physical theatre.
Melbourne: Under Construction is open to individuals or groups living in Victoria with an independent arts practice in circus or physical theatre.
All residencies in this round must be completed by 30 June 2026.
Selection Criteria
Consideration will be given to:
- The idea (is it interesting, innovative, bold?)
- The proposed use of time for creative development
- The track record and/or quality of the artists involved
- The benefit of the residency to the advancement of your project and/or careers
- The future potential of the project
