ORDINARY KIDS DOING EXTRAORDINARY THINGS

WELCOME TO AUSTRALIA’S NATIONAL YOUTH CIRCUS, the only full-time circus school for young people aged 8 to 18 in Australia.

We are renowned as both a centre of training excellence and an award-winning performing arts company offering an elite-level circus training course, general education through our own select entry school and artistic program which creates and tours performances around Australia and overseas.

Our purpose built school and training headquarters are based in Albury-Wodonga on the border of New South Wales and Victoria.

In 1979, the Murray River Performing Group (MRPG) staged a school holiday workshop in Albury to teach local kids how to put on their own circus show. With Jim and Pixi Robertson providing the skills training along with a few intrepid others, the Flying Fruit Fly Circus was born. What a resounding testament to the magic independent artists can create when supported, nurtured and unleashed to dream big and make the seemingly impossible happen.

Without the chutzpah and wild imaginations of these pioneering artists, there would be no Fruit Flies.

So we were honoured that two founders of our circus, Ian Mortimer and Pixi Robertson, could join us to share the double celebration of our opening night and partnership announcement with Sydney Opera House. Quite a legacy.

Australia needs more like Pixi and Mort, not less.
